Kailash Parbat NYC: Flavorful Escape

New York City is a paradise for food lovers, but when it comes to authentic Indian flavors, few places get it as right as Kailash Parbat. Recently, I decided to take my Chinese friend to try Indian food for the first time—and let’s just say, the evening was filled with spices, surprises, and one unfortunate encounter with corn.

The Warm Welcome & Vibrant Ambiance

From the moment we stepped in, the restaurant had a lively buzz, with aromas of sizzling spices filling the air. The cozy yet vibrant decor set the perfect stage for what should have been a perfect meal… until we met our first dish.

The Corn Basket Catastrophe 🌽

Excited to introduce my friend to Indian chaat-style appetizers, we ordered the Corn Basket, which looked beautifully plated and very promising (image below). But here’s the thing—I don’t like corn. I figured, “Okay, maybe this time will be different,” but spoiler alert: it wasn’t.

💬 “Let’s try it together!” I said, hyping up the moment.

We both took a bite… and immediately exchanged a look of silent disappointment.

🌽 Cold because of the yogurt? Check
🌽 Sweeter than expected? Check.
🌽 Did not spark joy? Double check.

💬 “Umm… so is it supposed to taste like this?” my friend asked hesitantly.
💬 “Honestly? I have no idea, because I don’t like corn. But now I know you don’t either.” 😂

It was a mutual “no” from both of us, and we swiftly moved on. Lesson learned: never trust corn to start a meal.

Redemption: The Main Course That Stole the Show

After that unfortunate appetizer, I was determined to redeem Indian food in my friend’s eyes. So, we went all in with a rich, creamy paneer dish, paired with buttery garlic naan. And this? This was a WINNER.

The silky smooth paneer, coated in a flavorful, spice-infused gravy, combined with the warm, pillowy naan, made for the perfect comeback after our corny disaster.

💬 “Okay, THIS is amazing. Why didn’t we start with this?” my friend said, finally seeing the magic of Indian food.
💬 “Because life wanted to humble us first.” 😂

Final Thoughts: Would I Go Back? Absolutely. Would I Order Corn Again? Never.

Despite our rocky start, the meal at Kailash Parbat turned out to be an incredible experience, and it was fun seeing my friend fall in love with Indian flavors (just not the corn basket).
